This place has the BEST staff. From Guilia ( think thats right) who informed me of everything & was so lovely to Bryn who helped me design my coins & did our tour(he was Awesome) then to Greg who did the gold melting display/ talk & had us spellbound & everyone laughing he was that good. I loved our time here & cannot praise these 3 enough
One of the best places to visit in Perth. Very informative tour about the history of gold. Interesting guided tour where you can see the biggest coin in the world weighing 1 ton and worth around $60 millions. You will also have the chance to see several gold nuggets. We enjoyed the demonstration on how to make the gold bars. You also will be able to try carry 15kg real gold bar.
I did not realize that I would have to join a guided tour to see the mint. So I was confined to the tourist shop. Nice displays but way out of my price range. Since my last review I have been to the mint again and have gone on the tour. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I think older children would enjoy it, say about 8+ lovely to see the gold pour and the worlds largest gold coin 1000kg not something you could carry out in your pocket. Lots of amazing pure gold nuggets to see. You can also see coins being minted and get a personalized coin as well. Great fun and very interesting.
Great place to visit if going to Perth. The guided tour is very good. You get to see the largest (1 Tonne) and most valuable gold coin in the world rotating on a solid plinth. The mint also houses the second largest gold nugget (25 Kg) currently in existence. The "Gold Pour" is very entertaining; from a safe distance you watch a guy pour 99.99% molten gold from the furnace to form a 6Kg gold bar.
Highly recommended if you have any interest in the history of gold in WA. Even better, you have the opportunity to see the largest gold coin in the world (worth nearly $60 million today.)We had Rupert as our tour guide and he was excellent. There is also a gold pouring demonstration which is very interesting.
