Fantastic live music venue presenting a mixture of high quality original and modern jazz during the early sets transitioning to groove based and more amplified music during late night sets (each provided by different musicians/groups).
Love the atmosphere, all the staff are friendly and professional, great performances are put on (from the ones I've seen)Drinks are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for.
It is an excellent Jazz venue but fails to look after its clients who are mostly over 60. Not enough seating, you need to be queued up before it opens at 6:30 to get a seat even if you've booked & paid well in advance. Also, the 3 performances I've been to in 2018 were due to start 7 pm, didn't start til 7:30. Plan to stand, shoulder to shoulder, with hardly enough room to enjoy your beer.
What a marvellous intimate jazz club. My brother his son and I went there to listen to a 10 piece band called Manteca. They were phenomenal. So together, tight and inspired by their music. It was some of the best funk jazz I have heard in a long time. The Ellington Jazz Club was the ideal venue in Western Australia to listen to music of this high calibre. The audience was highly appreciative and responded accordingly winning 2 encores from the band at the end of the session. A truly thrilling night out.
Gorgeous space, fantastic staff and decent menu, but the main reason you want to go is to see fantastic music for a fantastic price (student discount is even better).
