Sorry I don't get the hype...dinner on a Saturday night obviously busy but acoustics were shocking- overly loud heavy bass music competing with so many people talking hardly creates relaxing atmosphere. . Also way too dark for my taste but perhaps others might like that.. Service was good but menu limited and portion sizes frankly a joke. Risotto and pasta mains were at best modest entrees. As for selling cheese in small individual pieces for near $20 a piece... In summary great on someone else's budget if you are deaf,have a torch handy and eat before you get there.
Interesting and tasteful decor in a beautiful stone building, a little eclectic, cosy, dimly lit, romantic, with well spaced tables. Interesting ingredients used in a tight range of dishes. The food was interesting, more than flavourful. I thought Balthazar was some interesting middle eastern place (or in WA, as in Tim Winton's "The Shepherd's Hut), it is actually a very large bottle of wine/champagne containing the equivalent of 16 normal bottles.
A friend and I did the ladies that lunch thing. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely ambience feels classy. Enjoyed the elegant dishes very much indeed. A few wines, a coffee and a lovely way to spend the afternoon all in all. We will certainly be back. Music was a nice eclectic mix I would have appreciated it just a tad lower though, struggled to hear my friend chatting at times.
As interesting as the name is, Balthazar is a place with exceptional service, delightful food and the perfect lighting for any event.The have flexibility on closure times, and even take your coats too. Just magic!
Incredible dinner. Chicken liver parfait was unbelievable and the fillet steak melted in the mouth like butter. Highly worth the price you pay to have a meal you won't forget any time soon.
